Julep Maven July It Girl Box (the good, the not so good and some comparisons)

Well hello all, after lots of anticipation I got my Julep Maven July It Girl Box today! (yes on a Saturday) :) I am happy with the shipment speed, I am in KC and got my shipment notice on the 27th so 3 days looks great to me.

Now the box itself was complimentary this month, I earned a free month award thanks to my referrals and that was awesome! All Mavens who didn't skip got a free sparkly polish, either America or O'Canada based on your shipping address, I added O' Canada which should arrive in a couple of days so I paid $4.99 only for the add on.

If you are thinking about becoming a Maven here is my link HTTP://JULEP.COM/?R=20716829 use "PENNYINTRO" or "COLOR2012" to get your intro box for $0.01, keep your account active for at least 30 days (you can skip the next box if you need to). Let me know you used my link and I might just send you a little "thank you" surprise ;)

Overall I would say this box was good except for Daphne, the color is definitely darker than I expected (and apparently I am not alone, check Julep's Facebook page for others commenting the same). http://www.facebook.com/julep

This is what I saw when opening the box, which by the way was smaller and rectangular this month, which is great because now it fits inside my mailbox (I live in an apartment complex and when the box is too big they leave it at the office but it is usually closed by the time I get home so I have to wait an extra day to get it).

Kate is lovely, Julep described it as a Soft white pearl, it is very opaque which is awesome and hard to find on white polish and you can see the pearl-y finish. I was a bit scared it would be too close to Juliette (which I just got in my mystery box) but thankfully it's way different and I like it better (still debating if I will ever use Juliette).

Meet Mila, I wasn't sure if I would like it as I already have OPI's Rainbow Connection from The Muppets Collection so I did a little comparison and I like Mila because even though the glitter colors are very similar, Mila is all small glitter which will be perfect for tips :)

And I saved Daphne for last... Julep described it as "Fresh seafoam green creme", I already have OPI's Mermaid Tears from the Pirate of the Caribbean collection, and based on the swatches Julep advertised on the blog, I think most of us Mavens were expecting a FRESH SEAFOAM GREEN, I was definitely expecting something lighter and more pastel than Mermaid Tears and definitely lighter and more pastel than what came in the box labeled as Daphne...

These are the pictures from Julep's Facebook page and Blog... Can you see why people might feel confused or let down about Daphne?

What did you get? What do you think?

  2. Aww darn, you're right Daphne is sooo dark. Maybe if you put it under bright white light it will lighten the polish lol I'm really glad I got robin last month then. I was scared that it was going to be similar.

    2. What about mixing some of Kate with Daphne in an empty bottle, you can buy them at some beauty supply stores. I used to mix my own polish all the time, came out with some AWESOME colors!

  3. Wow that sucks about Daphne I was looking so forward to it. I purchased Robin on the side last week, at least now I don't feel so bad.

  4. I like Daphne, I wasn't let down only because I ended up really liking it when I saw it, the color is still very unique. I still do want a light sea foam green, but this is good too.
